Garden pics

Photos from year 2, 2011
Now I can finally see which is the plant and which are the weeds, but it took three months until I could.

We started some of the plants in pots. These seemed to do better than those I started directly in the garden.

One of our surprises, the crab apple, produced its first fruits July 2011
Between the tomatoes (left), the Cucumbers (back) and the peppers (right) is our lone corn stalk centre left, and to its right the lacy plant is a lamb's quarters in bloom, neither of which were planted.

Baby basil and savoury in the bathtub. We later added sweet potatoes on the sides and a few recently planted lettuces. We have harvested the basil once and so far produced two litres of pesto.
This is how we have contained our morning glories, and used a former wall façade to build our garden walls.

Sweet potatoes and basil in the bathtub.
The sunflowers start to bloom.
The broccoli was not supposed to look like this, and it tasted more like rapini which somehow made up for the fact that my rapini failed completely.

Orpine. By the end of the fall, it was indistinguishable from sedem, but in the summer the leaves were thinner and tasty, and it bloomed pink from the start.

Some of our mantids. Josh had fun photographing them.

 Naomi's harvest day.
Squash and beans. We missed out on corn, only two of the sisters here this year.
 Lamb's quarters. Tasty in salad.
Basil, sweet potato and savory (far right) in the tub.

 Lost in the tomato jungle.
They taste as great as they look. Josh says it is a model of the fibonacci number, but I would need to count. Looks so cool though.
 We got bees!

Pepper pot of super hots from Gu and Jasmyn.

Lavender

 Not a weed!

Drowning in green tomatoes and unripe peppers.

Turtlehead flowers. They bloom late August through November.

Centre: one of our curly Japanese cucumbers, surrounded by tomatoes and basil.
 Sweet potatoes and basil.

Dahlias in late summer.

 Tomatoes in cages.
 Broccoli for dinner!

 Early sunflower about to bud.

Photos from year 4, 2013.

Garlic on the left, crabapple tree above.
Gooseneck loosestrife, early in the season.

On the sunnier side of my house, things have been filling out nicely. The new magnolia is the thin stick on the far right.
This is on the shadier side of the house, with a new rock arrangement.

The front of the house. I finally have conquered the dark pit of despair thanks to Josh's handy work with the branch trimmer. Things are growing again.
